Re: How long do they live?
Name: Fudge
Sex: Female
Bred: No
Purchased from: P@H
Born: April 2012
Death: 26th September 2013
Age: 17 Months
Cause: PTS due to suspected Kidney Failure
Symptoms: Her breathing become really fast and heavy, she was gulping a lot and was just sitting on me not moving. I took her to the vets 23rd September where it was suspected either Kidney Infection or Kidney Failure. I had a choice, PTS or try 5 days of antibiotics. I chose to try medication and was told if she deteriorated to take her back. She stopped washing, stopped coming out of her nest except to pee and when I gave her meds, stopped eating (between Monday and Thursday she managed a couple of mouthfuls of baby food and not even half of a selective science pellet.) and was losing weight fast. I tried to syringe feed her but she refused it, really fought the syringe off. I took her back to the vets 26th because of all of that and her breathing not improving at all. The vet said it would be kindest to pts so I made the difficult decision to have her helped to the bridge.

Re: How long do they live?
I had a male hamster Stueart Little , he lived untill he was 3 which i was quite impressed by, after he passed we got another female like him - both were syrian ansd both has the same markings, and she died at a year and a half! From my experiance the males Ive raised lived longer

Syrians
Gandalf - male 8 months old - sickly pets at home hamster
Bear - female 21 months old - several generation inbred hamster born in rescue outlived all of her siblings, no obvious cause so most likely "old age".
Gremmy - male rescue so exact age unknown 30 months "old age" but also had testicular tumour and prolapsed penis near the end
Wynter - Rose -female 14 months old rectal prolapse

Re: How long do they live?
Syrians:
Peppi - Female - Around 2,5 years old.
Sparky - Male - Little over 2 years old.
Lotje - Female - Almost 2 years old
Roborovski:
Frummel - Male - almost 2,5 years old
Chinese:
Billy Brown - Male - 3 years old
Winter White (maybe a hybrid):
Mika - Female - 3 years and 3 months old
None of them have been bred (as far as I know, some hamsters were adopted at a shelter) And they all died of old age.
Peppi and Lotje both had pyometra once in there live but they got better.
