Minkyboos - 3rd generation babyboos hamstery hamster - fathered fourteen litters - lived to well over 3.5 years - retired at 580 days to a young family and lived with them until almost bald and completely geriatric for 532 days

Minky stands out as I have such detailed records for him and he went to a colleague at work's children

I've had 19 hamsters now, but most were family pets when I was younger, so I'll try to remember as far back as I can go. The most recent are nearest the top. (S) is Syrian, (RD) is Russian Dwarf.

Squirt (S): MALE 2003-2005, roughly 1yr 4 months, not entirely sure of what he died from. He seemed very healthy!

Scruff (S): MALE 2003, roughly 7 months old. We believe he died from bad breeding. Charlie and Lilly were brother and sister who had 'got together' producing Squirt and Scruff.

Charlie (S): FEMALE 2003-2004, roughly 1yr 6 months, died from wet tail.

Lilly (S): MALE! 2003- 2005, roughly 2 yrs 3 months, old age.

Maisie (S): FEMALE 2000 - 2002, roughl 2 years 1 month, old age.

Daisy (RD): FEMALE 2000-2002, roughly 2 years, old age.

Prickles (RD): MALE 1997 - 1999, roughly 2 yrs, old age.

Fluffy (RD): MALE 1997 - 1999, roughly 2 yrs, old age.

Sugar (S): FEMALE 1996 - 1998, roughly 2 years 4 months, old age.

Cracker (S): MALE 1993 - 1996, roughly 2 years 6 months, went into hibernation and died.

No name (S): FEMALE 1992, only a few weeks, had an unfortunate incident with the dog on the way home from the pet sop I was gutted

Hammy (S): MALE 1990 - 1994, 3 yrs and a few months, he lived for so long, I was convinced he'd never die! But age caught up with him in the end.

And the ones before Hammy: Linford, Beardsley, Bertie, Molly, Harry, and those before them, I don't remember the names. I can't remember how long they lived.

All my Syrians have been female, from pet shops and not been bred.

Syrians:
Holly - 23 months - old age
Honey - 21 months - put to sleep (possible pyometra)
Poppy - 26 months - stroke + old age
Biscuit - 22 months - put to sleep (pyometra)

Russian Dwarfs:
Ginger (M) 1 year - illness, never worked out quite what but some respiratory problem
Rockie (M) 2 years 5 months - old age

I'm actually glad I've sat and thought about it, as for some reason I thought my hammies hadn't been too lucky in regards to their age.

Thanks everyone for your inputs to this. I've recently compiled all the results and find it surprisingly common for pyometra in female Syrians. I've also noticed that the males tend to live longer.

If anyone else has any info they can contribute, it would be greatly appreciated.
