off to RSPCA tomorrow... u/d been!
... I phoned them and they've got a couple of Syrians in
So I hope to have a new addition fairly soon! just hope that it doesn't take as long as when I got my gerbils from the RSPCA - 1 month!

Good luck choosing, I guess it will be hard to decide which one is to be left behind. I suppose if you had to wait a month for gerbils it might not be too long before someone gets the other one as well which would be great.
Are you in Leicester like Donna? Is it the Scudamore Road RSPCA?

I live in Nottingham & I'm going to Radcliffe RSPCA, I'm in between that one and Derby RSPCA - Derby didn't have any in though...
It won't be too bad leaving one behind, as I know it's a great branch and they're well looked after while they're there... plus I am officially a volunteer there, so I could always go in for a cuddle anyway!
The gerbils were from the Derby branch and it took a month cos I had to prove that my dogs were neutered and fully vaccinated then I had to wait for the homecheck etc. - got them in the end though and they're still going strong over a year later!

Good luck with your visit and I hope you get a lucky little ham. Looking forward to seeing your new friend soon.

Faye, hopefully it wont take long if you've already had a previous home visit. I was an RSPCA home checker and also enquired about a hammy from the branch I volunteered at, they only required photos of the accomodation or for me to take the cage as proof.
Good luck and look forward to seeing him/her/them.

That'd be good if I could just take the cage in - I'll ask about that

When we recently adopted 3 rats from the Rspca (we only went for two.... be warned! ) they said that if we could bring their cage in we could have taken them straight away. As their cage is a Duetto bird aviary it wasn't possible, lol, but the home checker came in 1 week and we went and fetched them just after she had been.
I would definitely ring up and ask if this is a possibility, it would be better for you and for them.
(You can't be that far away from me, I live near Chesterfield!)

i know what that's like - you can't leave one on it's own! I ended up with 5 rats when I wanted 4
I'm in South Nottingham, but fairly close to the M1 so I say to o/h "just popping up the road for another hamster...!"

Got one - and was able to bring her home today thanks to the tips about taking the cage with me!
There were about 8 to choose from!
I'll post photos in a bit...
