It all started last night when I had Thistle out to play. She was tottering around as usual sniffing, chewing and exploring everything she came across, then she climbed up onto my lap as I was sat on the floor typing away on my computer.
My lap was perfectly level with the clear plastic of Pippy's Mini Duna and she too was up and about watching me and climbing up and down her rope toy.
The two met eyes through the plastic and sat next to each other simply staring completly confused by being able to see another hamster that they could not smell. They played a game of mirroring for a short while and then Thistle went back into her cage.
At some point in the middle of the night Thistle decided that she didnt want to go to bed and really wanted to go and see her ex-cage mate again so she began her escape - by chewing through the ties of her cage's mesh!
The mesh came lose and she pushed it across by standing on the roof of her house and out onto the top of her cage. What happend next is unknown but somehow she made her way down from her cage (Top Left) to Pippys Mini Duna in the opposite bottom corner!
I woke up this morning to see the little grey blob on the floor trying to peep into Pippy's cage by standing on her back legs. The second she realised I was awake she shot off to hide behind the hamster heaven but after a few seconds she figured there was nothing she could do and gave herself up with the cutest "What I do mum?" face I have ever seen.
I have since reinforced the new ties on her cage mesh and hope that she does not try it again. She is such a determined little thing , I will have to keep a very close eye on her!
