Houdini the Hamster!
I woke up this morning to my boyfriend trying to coax Chewy out from behind my bookcase. He'd managed to get out of the top door of my Cambridge cage somehow and climb down the cage and run behind my bookcase.
He's chewed the frayed edges of my throw, and taken loads of food out (I hope he's pouched it all beforehand). But it is such a huge pile, I'd wondered if he'd done it before, but don't think he'd be able to close the door again.
But now I've put him back in his cage he's really awake (he's usually fast asleep), and he keeps bar chewing which he hasn't done since the first day I bought him. And running about and going back upstairs to try to escape again, but I don't think he remembers how just yet. I've put a peg on the door for now. I feel bad though, he really wants to escape. What should I do to calm him down? He's been happy in his Cambridge until now.
Should I think about making a big bin cage for him? Then he really can't escape.
He's running around in his ball now to try and tire him out.
I've attached a photo of what he's done behind the bookcase.
