Default She is home!!!

Well, I'm pleased to report my lovely little Chinese girl, who I've named Shiloh has arrived safely at her new home.

You'll be able to see her colouring when I get some pictures in a few days time. She has big button eyes and in my humble opinion, she really is a very pretty girl.

I'm really impressed with how well she travelled. I had taken a carry case with me so I placed the P@H box, open, inside the case. I was expecting Shiloh to be a bag of nerves but she was really good. She was a little wary at first and stayed in the box. But, within ten minutes or so she had emerged and was exploring the case and even had a good old nibble on some cucumber. She then dug herself right down into the megazorb and fell asleep.

When we arrived home she had completely dissapeared into the Megazorb . So, I had to gently push away the megazorb until I found her. I was fully expecting a nip when I did this, but no. Once I found her, she gently opened her eyes and looked at me all sleepy. Well, my heart melted and then she elegantly walked into a cup so I could transport her to the Duna. Placed her in, and she went to her house where she seems to be sleeping quite happily.

I am VERY taken with little Shiloh and I now totally get why people love this breed so much. They're so pretty and extremely elegant and I'm really looking forward to the pair of us getting to know each other over time. She seems to have a very good nature. I'm thrilled to have her home and I apologise for the length of this post but I'm very excited . Pictures will come after a few days once she's settled in, but I'm looking forward to introducing her to you all!

Oh, one more thing. In all the excitement I forgot to ask how hold she was. I'm assuming around 6-8 weeks but anyone have any idea of the average age P@H sell them at?

Teeny tiny! I'd forgotten how tiny the chinese/dwarf babies can be. I'm so used to Syrians. Haven't had a dwarf variety for about 12 years!

She sounds adorable. Yup, 6-8 weeks old.

I was told when I adopted Bailey that all animals are placed into the adoption centre after they are 8 weeks old as they are not as easy to sell. :/

Awww, bless them! How can they go unsold, they're too gorgeous!

Please to hear I'm right about the age, for once, I'm usually terrible at working that out

Good grief, Snickers, if that's the same for all P@H then our Bailey must have been in there for about a month, as she was 3 months when we got her. Poor girl.

Can't wait to see pics, Roxie. She sounds gorgeous.

She seems in pretty good nick. Coats in good condition and her eyes are bright. I'll give her a proper check over when she's a bit more settled.

Only thing that worried me slightly was the way the assistant picked her up, didn't look very comfortable or dignified!

How exciting, another Chinese owner! You will soon fall in love all over again because they steal your heart Roxie. They are very different from your typical Russian or large syrian and you will be so taken by how gentle chinese hamster are. All I will say is, if and when you do lift her, do it when she`s facing you and cup both hands around her and she will probably sit still. They don`t tend to leap or run away once they are in your hands. I lift Prinny this way each evening, give her a little kiss and gently place her back down into her cage again and immediately give her a little half mealworm as a thankyou. Which she gladly takes. I never rush her into doing anything and she always comes to me. She will sniff my hand, lick millet from my hand while I hold my hand still inside her cage and she loves the interaction.

Don`t be afraid that she might nip you because she won`t. Chinese are not nippers or biters normally and are gentle towards people, so be confident if you offer her some millet or a mealworm from your hand.

Congratulations on choosing a chinese because I think they are fabulous.
