Stiky ham ham!?

OMG! Okay I have two hamsters, a syrian and a dwarf.

My syrian is a male (Sakana if you remember) and my dwarf is a female. They are both in the habit of peeing in one or two spots in their cage.

I've had Sakana almost two years and he NEVER smelled too badly. But Crack Pepper smells like death has arrived in her cage after just TWO days. I try to scoop out the soiled corners/spots but...god it smells so awful.

Okay, so my question for you all is....is it normal for girl dwarfs to smell badly? Is it a temporary stinkiness? I mean I've had her for several weeks but it has just been int he last week or so that she has smelled badly.

And any suggestions for alleviating the smell?? I live in a very small apartment....and dont' want the place to smell like that.

How old is your girly? It is not usual for them to smell very badly so quickly. It can be a sign of diabetes so it may be an idea to check her urine for sugar. The urine usually smells more strongly with age as the kidneys become less efficient.

I have never found any of my Dwarves to smell badly. The males can have a musky smell that is stronger than any female smell.

I would say that there must be something wrong with her health. Diabetes urine has a sweet smell but not rank. I think an infection could cause a bad smell.

I would take her to the Vet for a checkup.
