Max
I'm about to pop a little 'adoption story' into P@H about Max, and I thought I'd pop it here first to see what y'all think. I don't want to be preachy in it, but I wanted to slip a couple of comments in there about appropriate housing and looking after them correctly. Do you think this is okay?
I thought I would send you all a little update on Max, the Russian Hamster I adoped a few weeks ago. Max has settled in so well, he is a beautiful little hammy and I adore him. He had a reputation of being a bit grumpy when he was with you, and though he still likes his sleep(!), he will quite happily climb onto my hand and be stroked and played with. It took him a while to come round, as his eyesight is a bit poor and he was frightened by sudden loud noises and touch startled him. But now he knows my scent and the sound of my voice he comes to me quite happily, and I've learnt by moving slowly he doesn't get scared at all.
He still enjoys a little bit of broccoli every few days as a treat, and loves to play on his wheel during the night (I keep the bedroom door shut!). He has a large Mini Duna cage with lots of toys in to keep him occupied, and I often see him wondering around climbing all over things!
I would really like to encourage others to consider giving a second chance to the small animals in your adoption centre. Max was there through no fault of his own, and he is now a wonderful, sweet pet who I wouldn't be without. When I have more room I shall be coming back for more of your little adoptees, as it's such a great feeling to know you've giving an unwanted animal a loving home.

Re: Max
They asked me to do it when I took him home, I'm just going to go and hand it in to them.

Re: Max
They were very glad for it, she put it up straight away. They were especially amused that I nearly came out with the most beautiful baby Syrian - he was a grey longhaired with gorgeous markings and so chilled out in my hands, I WANT! But I purposely didn't take my purse and can't get a new cage till payday next week, by which time he'll probably have gone.

Re: Max
There will ALWAYS be hammies I want anywhere, lol. But I really liked this little guy. The only spare cage I've got is a Ferplast Combi and it would be cruel to keep him in that for over a week, wouldn't it? Though it's not actually any smaller than the cage he's in now.
