What a nasty experience for you to have gone through...glad all is ok.

I have a big plastic bucket with handles that Aidan uses for Hammy as an additional out-of-cage area and he's safe as houses in there as it's too tall for him to climb out of...I got it to put some of Aidan's toys in ages ago but never needed it and it stood in my loft conversion doing nothing until Aidan decided to put it to good use with Hammy. We nearly took it away with us last weekend but thought that the dog Otis may have been tempted if he was around when Hammy was in it so didn't bother. We kept Hammy well away from Otis during our York visit and the odd time that Otis got near the cage he just sniffed around it then left it alone.

Hammy knows how to squeeze through the PAH Playpen bars as well and we've stopped using it as that's the only thing he tries to do when he's in it so it's not really a safe place for him...I know that dwarf hamsters are much smaller of course.

Hope you have more success with a bin/bucket.

Well, we've had no more escape attempts thanks goodness - but 10 days down the line I'd say Sparrow is still feeling the effects as he seems a lot more timid than he used to be

He used to be the brave one, now Turner seems a lot more daring and Sparrow is reluctant to climb into the ball to come out even. If we try to pick him up he squeals, though he will climb on us in the bath. Turner seems a lot happier to be actually picked up for short periods but I'm getting nowhere with Sparrow.

I feel like I've let him down - he was very tame when we got him and now he isn't - but I just don't know what else to do.

I have robos and whenever they try to squeeze through they can, instead they try to chew out but I stop them from doing that. They never try to escape their cage. Jelly once tried to but she got a tiny bit stuck but I just tried to push her back and she was ok.

I think what's worth remembering about these toys that P@H and other stockists manufacture for hamsters is that they do require supervision when using them especially with the itsy bitsy hamsters, i wish they would bring out special dwarf toys that are designed with small hamsters in mind - that would be great
