Re: long haired syrian
You do have to coat a Wonderland but it's not really as bad or as expensive as it sounds. XD

Re: long haired syrian
I bought a tin of plastikote from B&Q and it was only £3.50,
You can skip it, but if your hamster pees in it, or has an accident then the wheel can be destroyed quickly, or just reek of pee. Plastikoting means it's wipe-able and that it can be re-used with a future ham

Re: long haired syrian
My Brian has very long hair and is ok in a Wodent wheel as he is quite small. I also have carefresh for him instead of woodshavings, and a baby brush for his hair (although I usually just tease out any bedding with my fingers, as it's gentler)
Also if you are getting a long haired ham but are not going to be showing him*, you could also trim his skirt so that it doesn't get knotted (I do this with my Dexter)
(*I say 'him' as long haired girl hamsters do not get very long coats like the boys do)

Re: long haired syrian
My LH Sable boy has never had any problems with the spindle on the Wodent Wheel either, probably because its such a big wheel. I love grooming time and he's such a good boy when I'm doing it I will definitely have more LH Syrians in the future

Re: long haired syrian
Fred my LH had a Wodent Wheel that he didn't have a problem with and we have now moved up in size and he has a large Silent Spinner, again, he has no problems. Because of the difficulty in handling Fred I don't get a chance to groom him often but I've found that he is actually very good at doing it himself and I have yet to find any knots in his fur. I also use Carefresh as the woodshavings get stuck in his fur.
