Default Elizabeth Grace is a BOY!

Just had to share this little mishap which is totally my fault When we got little Lizzie almost four weeks ago, the girl at the pet shop was not sure of the sex and said it was hard to tell when they were so young. I assumed he was a she because the rear end looked like Macy's, and there was no "protrusion" around the tail (as this can be very prounced in some males). After almost three weeks of taming, however, I was able to geat a really good look at the belly and tail area, and boy oh boy, is he a boy!! I compared his anatomy to some really good illustrations online, and Lizzie could have been the model for the male syrian!

After much debate over whether to keep the name as is (not thinking he would really care one way or the other ), the family concensus was to give him a boy name. Earlier this week, we decided to name him "Danny Boo." Danny, after Danny Zucko from Grease for the dark hair (and since we've been watching the new reality show seeking a new Danny and Sandy for Grease on Broadway)...and Boo as a middle name because my youngest wanted to call him Boo Boo. It's been weird but we're getting used to it. In any event, we love him as much as ever and are thrilled that we can really interact with him now!

Lizzie changed to Danny Boo?!

Wow! That is crazy! But it happens...least you figured it out....some pet owners never do. They just assume it is whatever the petshop owner told them it was.

Aww it happens all the time and youngsters can be quite hard to sex until their hormones kick in! The worst problem is when the pet shop is not sure and young females end up pregnant When they are very small you can see the nipple lines which are only present on the female. Good to hear he has a new name too. Great family decision!

That happened to me too! Only it took me 5 months to realise that Bailey was actually a girl, took me a while to stop calling her Baileyboy or "he" and "his" too :P

I'm sure he'll love his new name, its cute!

Yes, the "he" "she" thing has been a big issue around our house this week! She was our "little girl" or "Lizzie Grace" for several weeks, and it will definitely take us a while to get ourselves straightened out! I'm sure he's not the least bit stressed over it though !

I've been having my suspicions about Hamantha lately too! I watched her going into her little house to sleep a few weeks ago, and as her back end disappeared I thought "I'm sure girl hammies don't have those..."

Ha ha ha...ROFL...our hammy is a female...started out life as "Lovely Lil" and became a male to satisfy my son Aidan who was desperate for a male...he chose the name Hammy.

Hammy has been with us for a few weeks now and whilst at first I would slip up when mentioning the sex, I don't anymore and I've become accustomed to the name.

Hammy doesn't have a change of name document which is just as well as I wouldn't relish the thought of having to explain this one to Aidan in later life but we do have a "Pedigree" document which was given to us when we got him...just for a bit of fun you understand...so maybe in time that will give the game away but I'm sure when Aidan is older he will understand why I did it and hopefully he'll see the funny side of it.
