Is dove a rare colour?
Is dove a hard colour to come by, breeding wise? Only nobody on the forum seems to have a dove hammy (except Nappos one..which totally hasn't made me want a dove hamster >.<)
I'm just curious as I know some colours are harder to breed for than others, and I'm sure that there are dove breeders around, just haven't seen many of them, so was curious >.<

Re: Is dove a rare colour?
Tallinn is a Dove Banded, and before him, I've never seen one.
I'm not sure if they are actually rare, but for my area, seem to be.

Re: Is dove a rare colour?
I really want a dove syrian, but my boyfriend thinks a syrian would be too big (also, I'm a bit nervous that I couldn't give one enough time out every night >.<)
It's such a lovely soft colour >.<

Re: Is dove a rare colour?
They are not that hard to breed really and are fairly common at shows and amongst breeders.
Dove is black and cinnamon combined and these colours are fairly common.
Dove is a colour that has only recently been standardised in the UK so now Dove can be shown in the main classes and not only in non standard as it was before it had a standard passed.
What is hard is breeding a really nice Dove that fits the standard. They do tend to go brownish, almost mink coloured quite young. This is the UK Dove standard
TOP COAT - Dove grey with a deep lilac tone, to the roots.
BASE COLOUR - Dove grey with a deep lilac tone.
BELLY FUR - Dove grey with a deep lilac tone.
CRESCENTS - Absent
TICKING - Absent
CHEST BAND - Absent
CHEEK FLASHES - Absent
EYE COLOUR - Claret red
EAR COLOUR - Flesh grey

Thanks souffle,
It's odd that I haven't seen many members around with them, but I guess breeders probably concentrate on colours with a longer show life
I wouldn't mind if it was correct or not >.< but it'd be nice to have the possibility of showing (although obviously..with the short show life..)
