First of all, HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Here is a reason I am thankful today: (AMAZING story!)
I have a hamster named Carmelo. I also have my cat Dutchess. She is an indoor cat that is declawed in the front. Dutchess and Carmelo always had a good chemistry and I would supervise whenever they were near each other. Carmelo lives in a 20 gallon cage and has a wire top with a slab of wood on top to prevent him from getting out. He has many tactics to get out and sometimes Dutchess sits on top of the cage. The cage is downstairs and my parents room is upstairs.
So story begins...Last night around 2:30AM, my dad feels an object running on his bed and it freaked him out. My mom thought he was dreaming and then felt it too. My mom started to freak out thinking it was a mouse and Dutchess when she sees a mouse, she's so lazy and does nothing. Dutchess was on the bed too. So my mom turns on the light to reveal it's CARMELO!! (I was asleep in my bed, not knowing this was going on) My parents were SHOCKED. So Carmelo was really hyper and my mom took him downstairs to see that his cage top was off and his wheel tipped over. My parents told me this story at 9:30AM when I was still in my bed.
So the question is, how did Carmelo get out and how did he get to my parent's room? This is the greatest and REAL reason I am thankful this Thanksgiving Day. My family is still theorizing exactly how he got out, but we have come to an assumption that he was pushing on the wire top while he was on top of his hidey hut or he tipped over his wheel and got on top of that to push the top. He's a strong little guy! So the top must have fallen in the cage and then Carmelo made himself really skinny and slipped out. At the time, Dutchess must have been there and picked him up like a KITTEN! Then brought him upstairs to notify that Carmelo was out of his cage! What a miracle that is!! I checked him out when I got up looking for any scratches, bruises etc. and he's totally fine!! I couldn't believe it! Carmelo could have escaped and I would have never seen him again!

Or Dutchess could have hurt him. Thank goodness Dutchess was there (she has natural curiousity for the hamster, but now we know that she wouldn't hurt him. She knows Carmelo scent too) So, I went to Dutchess and hugged and kissed her, thanking her that she was there. Happy Thanksgiving!
Here is Dutchess and Carmelo together in August:
Also, I am increasing security...I think wanna get some cage clips. Here are some pics so you can get the jist of what I am talking about in the story:
^What I had on top of the cage.
^What I have on the cage NOW. It's alot of heavy stuff LOL, do you think the top can break from that?
^The cage as it is now, in my story, I heard the wheel was tipped over, (laying on it's back, the "holes" side up)
Thanks for your time! Now go hug your hammies and tell them how much you love them and how thankful you are for them!
