Im in shock
Ive just got back from a weeks holiday, my neighbour was looking after the cats and rodents but when we returned this morning the first thing I did was to check out the animals. Angel is missing, I feel sick typing this but shes missing in a house with 4 free roaming cats. Hers was the only cage I didnt lock away in my sons room as I knew it was safe where it was, she would have dropped quite a height when she escaped and Ive literally torn the house apart looking for her, there are no poos either so no signs of her being around. Shes over 3 and she sleeps a lot so I cant belive shes even managed to get the door open. Im so tired but I darent go to bed in case she gets up and the cats get her, I cant make a bin trap in case she falls into it and shes trapped and the cats get her, I just want to cry and pretend this isnt happening. Sorry for moaning I dont know what I expect anyone to do to help but Im just so worried about her and needed to vent.

Re: Im in shock
please don't panic, i know this is a very hard situation!
Think about her get up routine so you know when she will be up and moving about.
make sure all teh doors are shut so whatever room shes in shes confined to that one room.
Maybe try confine the cats in a room you know shes definitely not in.
Get absolutely everything you know could be dangerous out of reach!
I really hope you find her xx

Re: Im in shock
Think of all the cubby holes and all the furniture (bed, bedside tables) she could hide under. She is probably snuggled up somewhere safe. I think if the cats had found her you would know about it by now so that is a good sign and good luck looking ... she'll be sat waiting for you somewhere I'm sure of it

Re: Im in shock
She could be in any room tbh as all the doors were open, as for her routine its a bit hit and miss as (probably just cos shes an old lady) she sometimes didnt get up for more than a few minutes a few times a night. Im sitting here just listening for any noises out of the ordinary. Im going to try to make a bin trap with a mesh lid with a hole in, hopefully that will be cat proof but not Angel proof.

There is absolutely no trace of blood or anything so Im still praying that shes hidden somewhere in the house, some of the furniture is too heavy to lift but Ive had a good poke around under it and there isnt anything there.

Re: Im in shock
I don't really have any advice other than what has already been suggested, I just wanted to say good luck. She's probably just curled up sleeping somewhere.

Re: Im in shock
Oh you poor thing, I'd be the same. I suspect anything I suggest you've already tried. I suppose I'd say yes, try to confine the cats for a while. It sounds like she's unlikely to have gone far. Perhaps leave some food and water in places you suspect she could be (so she has a supply while she's on her adventure). If she's very sleepy she may well have found the perfect bed and this will make her quieter and harder to find. I know this this isn't terribly useful. Just wanted to say I'm so sorry for you and really hope you find her soon. x

Re: Im in shock
Ive just made 4 traps out some of those plastic fish tank type carriers with the little flip top lid, Ive taken the lid away and hopefully she will fall into it and the cats wont be able to get to her, Ive also put her cage on the floor and opened the top door and put a ladder up to the top, so if she drops into it she wont be able to get out. Theres nothing more I can do now except to pray that she finds her way into one of the traps and that she isnt already in the same room as the cats.

She said she saw her bedding moving on friday but I told her not to wake her up as she sleeps a lot, so she was definately in there on friday but she might have been going in and out all week as I didnt even notice the door till I got right up to the cage, its a hamster heaven cage and it was only open one notch at one side of the door, shes a very small syrian so shes managed to squeeze out, I wish Id made a point of saying that the door has to close right up but it really was only a tiny gap.
