Ants
We are having a heatwave with temps of 110f yesterday. the ants have raided my house looking for water, they raided mile's habitrail ovo and attacked her water. however I can't get rid of the ants, i cleaned her whole habitrail yesterday and this morning when i awoke it was again being taken over by ants. Miles was standing on her log house, just like I would stand on a chair if a mouse came in the house it was so cute. but she's clearly annoyed by the ants.
Anyone know how to get rid of ants without hurting the hammy?

Re: Ants
how about put a few crumbs or a piece of bread or whatever on the floor so the ants will come and when they do trap them or something? maybe moving the cagew ould be a good idea too, as yeah ants in a habitrail dont really mix...

Re: Ants
Aww poor little ham. I would move the cage for sure, and get some ant traps! You can also get ant powders and sprays that will kill the ants. Dont use this near to your hamster though. If you can find the nest outside I would destroy it by pouring boiling water on it, your hamster certainly cant live in a cage infested with ants.

Re: Ants
ants hate citrus and talc if you can find where they are coming in from cover it in lemon or talc , but be careful as hammies cannot have citrus either... i think you may have to move poor hammy somewhere else for the time being..somewhere high up maybe like on a unit with lemon juice so they cannot climb up the unit.
