Funny little things hamsters....

they do have all their own little quirks don't they?

Example 1 Bought a snuggle pouch for Gizzy, not bothered at all, was passed on to Pip not bothered, then Huxley, not bothered, then Fudge, you guessed it. Horace.....loves it & is now using it permanently as his bed. Even filling it with bedding this morning.

Example 2 Wooden Climbing frame bought for Fudge not in the least bit interested even though he is a a Syrian. John put it in Gizzy's cage Monday night, straight up it.

Example 3 Savic Sputniks, only Gizmo & Huxley like them.

Example 4 Sand Baths, Pip & Horace love to do the bath time jiggle. Huxley....he likes to pee & poo in his.

Example 5 Fudge, the only one of all 5 who cleans his bowl, other 4 always leave something.

So 5 hammies in this house, all with their own little personalties. Care to share your little snippets too?

thats a nice a idea ok...here we go:

example 1: horst (russian hybrid) slept in his coconut all the time never changed his sleeping place. his food storage place was in the coconut too. he was throwing his poop and corn shells out of the coconut opening once a day...clean hamster

example 2: carlo (russian hybrid) sleeps, eats, pees and poops all in the same corner. messy hamster...WHY?!

example 3: herbert (syrian) always changes the sleeping place to the most secure corner in the cage (behind ladders,...) herbert always has to build a volcano-bed (herbert sleeping in the volcano opening). the cages is mainly without litter coz my herbert uses it all to build the sleeping-volcano...oh yeah...herbert poops in the sleeping place but pees in the sandbath....the food storage place is always in the second most secure place in the cage

example 4/5: watson and holmes (robos) change their sleeping places all the time (5 times a day even) sometimes they snuggle up together, sometimes not...sometimes they dig a hole...sometimes not....they also poop and pee anywhere they like. they dont store their food at all...only keep it in their pouches and then eat it during the rest of the day...

horst and herbert was/is more a climber than wheel runner, whereas the robos clearly enjoy their wheels. carlo however likes sleeping all day doing nothing at all

oh where to start ....

1. My ham store his food in his litter tray, where he also goes to wee wee in. something when hes putting his food in the tray he will fall asleep in it too ..... Lazy ham! if idont get him out of the cage when he wants to be let out he starts throwing poo out of his cage!! lovely!

2. Bud sleeps in his penthouse in his HH and uses one side of it for toilet and keeping his food there! yummy! He also has to lick everything - he licks your hand when you pick him up, he licks the side of the ball before he goes in, hes even licked my foot once because it was in his way!!

3. Megan likes to escape, any chance she gets she makes a run for it! she has somehow managed to get out of her cage even though the door (on top of the cage) was shut!!!!
When Megan has ball time the first thing she does is has a itch then rubs herself against the side of the ball and always falls over!!

4. Nibbles is a nest builder, she cant sleep in her house. she pulls all the bedding out and moves all the sawdust to one side of the cage. When shes sleeping in her nest she has to have some of the bedding covering her back!

5/6. My chinese boys (Stinky and Monkey) love their wheel abit too much and get angry if you touch their wheel! they also take all their fave bits out of the food bowl then tip the bowl over as to say 'mummy i have eaten all my food i would like some more yummy bits'!

7. Billy my Robo has a route mapped out in his cage which he will run everyday for about 20 mins! this route has never changed since i got which has been nearly a year now. If i move something in his cage which would get in the way of this route he will move it before he does his run!

um

eg1 - both syrians, mango and mimi, and pop one of my robos absolutely go nuts over their ball. pip tries to dig her way out of it.
eg2 - pops the onlyone who uses the sandbath correctly. the others flip it over and pour it over themselves lol
eg3 - mango has a loo place... where he likes to pee etc. i put a corner loo in there. he moves loo. and so it goes on... its like a never ending battle lol same happens with sand bath!!
eg4 - my robos change bed all the time. in the wheel, the foodbowl, sandbath, in the middle of the cage... they manage to drag all their bedding around with them, like little campers lol all they need is a tent!
eg5 - mimi is the only one out of 4 who likes dog biccies as chews... so i'm soaking a jenga brick in jjuice for the robos lol they have nothing!
eg6 - pip and pop eat nothing... i swear their anorexic! but i then look in their little bed and theirmunching away happily, bless them they share their loo corner with dining room with bed lol. what happened to the *foodbowl* ?!

Haha its diffiuclt remembering what they like and dont like too... nightmare

Oh well...
Toshiro was by far the quirkiest hamster I've owned yet.
EG1: He only ate pumpkin seeds and sunflowers seeds from his food bowl and left everything else no matter what brand or what I did so I had to go to a vet to find out what else he could eat to get all his needed nutrients.
EG2: He would throw his bedding all over the cage and then try sleep in his igloo...only to then put back all his bedding (he'd do that every night)
EG3: Tosh loved nothing more than watching TV with me. He even had favourite programmes. I think the light and sound transfixed him or something. He didn't like the anime Lucky Star as I think the voices were too high pitched for him but he liked House and Law and Order.
EG4: He liked crawling all the way up my fiance's arm and then crawling around in his hair.
EG5: When we had our Saturday Film Night Toshiro seemed to know what night it was and if we didn't bring him with us he'd bang things against the cage and crawl up the bars. I even had to take him to a cinema once. -.- so embarassing sneaking him in with my bag.

But alas my other two hamster I had Aizen and Luppi were fairly normal and I didn't have the same TV and film addicted hamster problems I had with little Toshiro.

Toffee does this funny little sighing 'huff', where he appears to raise his 'shoulders' and then let them drop again. It's really endearing.

Phoebe - well where do I start, she is bonkers! Hammy of very little brain, I always think that she has a bit of a 'gormless' expression bless her, but very sweet none the less. She is hitting her teenage years I think as she does actually throw tantrums if I take something away from her or stop her doing something. She was persistantly chewing her water bottle nozzle (which thank god she has now stopped doing!) so I took it out, but she started shewing the hole so I put a peice of wood in the hole, wedged it in really tight so it poked out both sides. Well she went ballistic, she threw herself off the sides of her cage, and attacked this peice of wood like it was an arch enemy!! I have never seen a ham go so crazy!!
At ball time I use rolled up blankets and draught excluders to protect the furniture from being knocked and she will constantly bash into one corner of a blanket to gradully flatten it so that she can make her way over the top into the world beyond!! Its like you can see her little hammy brain working!

And Boris, well he is a pretty laid back boy, he always stands up on the shelf of his tank when he hears I'm about. He stand on his back legs like a meercat pose and looks for a hand to come down bearing mealworms. Sometimes he gets a bit too over excited and walks backwards and falls of the shelf - very funny, especially as he tries to be so 'yeah but am I bothered though!'
He also is a secret wheel user, sometimes I will catch him wheeling, but as soon as he sees me he gets off and looks all 'no not me, I dont do exercise'! Bless him!
