Default Advice about fruit for russian dwarf

Hi there, I'm picking up my first ever hamster next weekend, a winter white russian dwarf. Not my first rodent but my first hamster. I've been looking into the right fresh food to give them and I've been mostly getting consistent answers about vegetables but really inconsistent answers about fruit.

One website said to give them apples and grapes, another said yes apples but no to grapes, another said no fruit at all because of the sugar. So I'm really not sure and I don't want to get it wrong.

Any advise would be appreciated, thanks!

I'd stich with veg rather that fruit. Things like brocolli, cabbage, beans and peas are enjoyed by dwarf hamsters. They can be prone to diabetes so best avoiding sweet fruit and veg.

Thanks for getting back to me, and yeah that seems like the safest option. I did know about the diabetes thing I just hoped it might be okay to give them an occasional bit of apple or something as a treat, especially as I often have apples in for myself.

I used to keep rats and the list of things they can't eat is very short so they almost always had a bit of whatever I was eating. Thanks!
