Exclamation Help! My Syrian won’t eat any animal protein at alll :(

Hi everyone!

I have just gotten a syrian male a week ago, he is 7 weeks old. He is healthy and eats basically everything I’ve given him including his seed mix, fresh vegetables, walnuts and sunflower seeds, and his love of his life is freeze dried tofu.

With that said, he absolutely will not touch any animal protein at all! I have tried feeding him dried mealworms, dried shrimp, purebites chicken breast, and boiled egg white, and I’m now at my wit’s end on what to feed him. I understand that hamsters are omnivores and I’m wondering if he is getting enough nutrients!

Feeding schedule for the past week:
Bunny Nature HamsterDream Expert - Scattered once a day
Herbs/sprays/florals - scattered once on his first day with me
Freeze dried tofu - 2-3 a day
Sunflower seeds - 1-2 a day
Half walnut - once
Cucumber and carrot (really small piece) - once
Romaine lettuce and carrot (really small piece) - once

He eats every single one of these but refuses to eat any animals! Please let me know if you have any suggestions on what I can do to improve his diet thank you!

There is no need to feed animal proteins in addition to the complete diets you are offering. He likely does eat some bits from his store. You can't make them eat anything so offer a selection and as long as he is active, healthy, well bodied and has a good coat he is getting what he needs so try and not worry.
