Default Safety of peanut butter?

I’ve had quite a few hamsters who have really enjoyed occasional peanut butter, but I had a brief incident with my last hammy, Icy, who was 2 years and 5 months old.

She had peanut butter all her life and then one day I guess she got too old to be able to chew it well, and she couldn’t manage to chew it right and got stressed and laid on the ground and chewed it very slowly for a couple minutes while I supervised and talked to her softly. So from then on, I didn’t give her such sticky foods anymore.

Ever since, I’ve been a bit worried about the potential for choking since it’s so sticky. I want to introduce it to my current hammy, Cow, (6 months old), but I’m nervous about the possibility of choking since she hasn’t tried anything that sticky yet and I’m not sure if she’d try to eat it too fast.

Is it generally safe and has anyone had an issue with it before?
