Do I need to feed more than one food?
Hi.
Been researching food and it seems a lot of people feed more than one mix.
Could I feed a mix of Supreme Science Selective with Harry Hamster?
Or can I just feed the Harry Hamster?
Thanks.

Re: Do I need to feed more than one food?
I personally do one pellet diet and one seed mix just for variety, but some people feel differently.
I found that between my 4 hamsters, none of them ate enough of each and when I gave both, they were eating much more.
I think they liked the pellet food (I also used Science Selective) better for taste but the seed mix (I use Higgins Vita Garden because we don't have Harry Hamster here) offered more variety and was fun for them. using a mix also gives them a foraging experience and lets them feel like they're in the wild.
Aside from that, you'll also be supplementing their diet with fruits, veggies, and proteins such as Pure Bites freeze dried chicken, hard-boiled egg, crickets, mealworms, etc. plus a lot of people give their hamsters whimzees, millet/flax/wheat sprays, and just generally little things from their pantry (oats, raw rice, raw noodles, plain sugar free yogurt, etc.) so it's definitely more than just one food either way.
hope this helps!

Thank you.
I'll go with the two foods then.
Oh yes, sorry, I just meant the main food, I'll be including various fruit, veg, etc etc as well.
I found a mix of dried insects I thought I'd get, it has mealworms, crickets, silkworm and other things I don't remember in it.

Re: Do I need to feed more than one food?
I feed multiple mixes. Personally, I have always hated Harry Hamster. I don't think there's much wrong nutritionally, but it feels so far from what hamsters would naturally eat. Also, I rescue & rehome, and Harry Hamster is far from perfect for any dwarf species.
I personally use Science Selective, Bunny nature Syrian Expert (for my syrians, or dwarf expert for the dwarves) for that diversity, and Katkins freeze dried chicken for that extra bit of protein. I found Syrians aren't big bug eaters, so the freeze dried meat is really good for it.
