Post Can I give my hamster these seed sprouts?

I planted a few seeds from my hamster’s seed mix in a container with coconut fiber. I planted red milo, white millet, sun flower seeds and a few others. I planted them to see if they would sprout, and to my surprise they did! Once the sprouts get a little bigger, would it be ok to feed them to my hamster?

I don't recommend feeding sprouted milo (aka sorghum) as the sprouts can contain not insignificant amounts of cyanide. Sprouted millet is potentially suspect for similar reasons.

Sprouted wheat and oats are safe to feed, likely sunflower as well.

Wow, that is interesting information. 100g of seeds is a lot of seeds but still, i hadn't expected cyanide.

Wow, i didn’t know millet would be an unsafe sprout. I guess i’ll grow the unsafe seeds and see if i can harvest them. As for the grains and oats that i’ve planted, are there any unsafe varieties i should avoid?

Thank you, i’ll see if I can find any of the safe clover seeds to grow that were mentioned in the description. I have a feeling my hamster would really like clover and possibly the chickweed.

Any kind of wheat or oats should be ok.

With millet, I believe it depends on the variety how safe it is sprouted. It's definitely "less unsafe" than sorghum (bear in mind that poisons are all around us and basically every plant contains a poison of some kind - it's the dose that matters) but not having looked into which varieties are safe, I avoid sprouted millet.
