Food mixing

As I'm not located in the USA, brands such as Mazuri rat and mouse pellets are not available. I've been calculating and searching for the next most nourishing prospect on the market and quickly became stuck on two options.

Mixing Supreme Science Selective Complete Hamster food with Harry Hamster's Tasty Mix OR mixing Supreme Science Selective Complete Hamster food with Higgins Sunburst. Both combinations have their pros and cons but I believe the Higgins mix has a lower overall protein percentage. Help would be appreciated, thanks!

Have you access to Rodipet or Bunny hamster food? They are very popular.

Harry Hamster is better than Higgins Sunburst and some people mix Science Selective with it, but it's not required.

If you have a dwarf hamster, a food with smaller seeds such as Rodipet or Bunny as mentioned above tends to be preferred, though Syrians prefer bigger pieces.

If you're able to access Higgins I'm guessing you're based in Canada. In that case, your proper diet there(also the US) is Higgins Vita Garden - NOT Sunburst, since Sunburst has dried fruit which is unsuitable for hamster daily diets as fruit isn't something they'd naturally be eating much if any of in the wild.

Higgins Vita Garden just gets added flax seed and Pure Bites with every feeding for protein boosting purposes as well as health benefits associated with flax seed(skin and coat for example).

It does depend on where you're located though. If you're within a country with access to Rodipet foods, the junior ones are excellent and would be far superior in terms of ingredient quality to the Supreme Selective and Harry Hamster. Unfortunately it's not available everywhere.

I'm actually based in the UK, Higgins Sunburst is available to us on Amazon and other online sites but at a much higher cost and so is Higgins Vita Garden, but I'm not sure what pelleted diet I should mix it with to get the correct GA levels.

There's no need to buy either Higgins Sunburst or Vita Garden in the UK. They're recommended a lot because most of the hamster community is in the US and they're the better mixes over there, not because they're uniquely good or anything.

Rodipet food is sold directly from their website, rodipet.co.uk.

Bunny might be on Amazon but I buy it from Zooplus or Vetsend.

Oh, wow. I'm definitely looking into it. I kind of just assumed it was somewhat impossible to find a mix that didn't need any partnering with pellets. I'm assuming you stop feeding the Junior Rodpiet diet after around 8 months of age? Sorry for the continous questions haha.

Hamster foods in the US tend to be lower in protein which is why people pair them with a higher protein pellet/lab block. But in the UK we have access to foods with higher protein so it's not usually necessary.
