Porridge
This porridge is perfect for when my OH's not here to make proper porridge on the stove.
1 level scoop of oats and 2 scoops of water in a bowl then microwave for 40 sec.
Once empty, the scoop is handy for hamster mix and the tub makes a perfect Syrian sized tunnel.
The hamsters like it.

Re: Porridge
Thank you for this tip. It sounds very popular with your hamsters. I actually thought hamsters would eat porridge oats raw mixed with water. Silly me! Haha.

Re: Porridge
My husband loves the same porridge oats and never minded a small teaspoon being microwaved in seconds for the hamsters. Always a favourite and the smell of the cooked oats never failed to produce a twitching nose at the entrance to the nest waiting for the treat bowl to be placed nearby.
It was also a perfect treat mix for any medicine that was needed.

Re: Porridge
I haven't seen those before. We still get the Scotts one from my childhood with the man in a kilt on the front. Sometimes a Mornflake one and sometimes Holland and Barrett organic jumbo oats (which we think are the best). Depending on what you can get hold of. I've started eating it again but the smell of it cooking still makes me feel nauseous for some strange reason.
Very useful tip to have the quantities and microwave times! I've always guestimated. What watt of microwave oven is the 40 seconds for?

Re: Porridge
800W. The tub states double that for one portion but i halved it for the hamsters.
We normally use the regular oats of this Irish porridge when we cook it and i still eat it the Scottish way with a pinch of salt and a wee bit of butter.
Plain for the hamsters of course.
They sell it in Asda and Waitrose, maybe other supermarkets as well.
