Exclamation DIY syrian and dwarf hamster enclosures tips

Hello, this is my first time posting on here . Im looking for ways to get a good sized enclosure for both my syrian hamster and dwarf hamster. Im willing to try making some type of enclosure for them but i want to now if there are any (affordable)alternatives. Any advice would also be appreciated, thank you.

Hello and welcome to HC!

Ikea conversions like a detolf for a dwarf and a linnmon for a Syrian are popular. Both need DIY meshed lids.

My Syrians live in Alaska cages and the dwarfs in Hamster Heavens. All bought second hand off Gumtree. I prefer barred cages with a large front door.

A bin cage may work for a dwarf but hard to find one big enough for a Syrian. Quite a bit of DIY needed to cut out and mesh the lid, a window and back vent.

A second hand fishtank with a DIY meshed lid could be another option.

Hi, I’m relatively new too and this site has been a fantastic help. I used the housing page to check out photos of other hamster enclosures and read the past posts to help me decide on my hamsters setup.
