Default Cooked or uncooked?

I've studied the lists of safe and unsafe foods, but they don't tell me whether or not the vegetables ought to be cooked? I've a dwarf Roborovski with an energetic appetite. Should I feed the veg (etc) raw or steamed? I'd appreciate any answers.

It depends on veg really. I always cook potato myself by most others I give raw. Mine like brocolli, cabbage, cauliflower, sprouts, beans, peas etc raw but they will also take them cooked.

With the veg that have to be cooked for safety(potato for example) that's very easy to answer as they of course must be cooked. Most veg isn't like that though and cooking isn't really that necessary for a lot of veg, but when in doubt you can always check the safety of individual raw veg as needed!

I have long wondered about this, so it's so helpful to have an answer. I have also wondered if it's okay to give hamsters mushrooms and sugar snap peas. This would be for a dwarf and a robo.

Sugar snap peas would be fine. Mushrooms I'm not entirely certain with, as I know they're generally safe for some species at least including some rodents - the big concern being making sure you know the type you're giving is safe. I don't know that it's something I'd feel entirely comfortable risking with hamsters just yet, so I'd wait for others to weigh in on it, but if they were safe(at least human safe varieties) they'd be a great source of some nutrients!

Raw is better really - as it is for humans! More nutrients. But cooked is fine as long as it's plain boiled - no gravy etc.

Cucumber is easy (and popular). I also give - raw carrot, raw broccoli (sometimes cooked if we've had cooked broccoli - ie a leftover bit). Raw baby corn piece. These days I just tend to rotate cucumber, carrot and broccoli - all of which keep well and for a long time if kept in the fridge.

Thanks for the feedback. I would only be giving them mushrooms that we buy from the supermarket, so definitely human-safe varieties, but I will perhaps leave it for now.

Unfortunately, they are not so keen on carrots, and cucumber tends to be ignored - but broccoli and cauliflower are a winner with both of them.

Not all hamsters like the same things, but sometimes it can take trying multiple times for any sort of pet to be interested in some veg. Sometimes you can even try different forms and that may work, for example shredded over entire chunks. Sometimes you might even end up having to resort to mixing very tiny pieces into other foods to convince some pets!

I personally know there can be a huge difference in taste with fresh foods depending on if they're in season, where they come from(average supermarket vs even organic sometimes, and locally grown can be surprisingly different in flavor), etc. There are also many different varieties within plant species and that can also impact flavor, texture, etc.
