does this sound like a good diet for a hamster?
i'm trying out sprinkling food around my hamster's cage, and i want to get some opinions on what i should include/exclude. right now i'm sprinkling a tablespoon of his regular commercial food mix around his cage so he can forage but i still have a food bowl for him where i give him a tablespoon of safe vegetables and in there a tablespoon of his commercial food mix (i saw someone do this but with hay, the point is that they have to dig for their food mix). he also gets two small vitamin treats hidden in toys. i just recently started doing this and i'm not sure if i should give him fresh food daily or every other day. i'm planning on getting him sprays and safe herbs. does any of this sound like too much for him, i'm not used to doing all of this but i read that the commercial food mix isn't enough nutrition.
edit: he's a campbell dwarf hamster

Don't give extra vitamins even as a treat. A proper diet will include all the vitamins & minerals needed, and overdosing on those things can be really harmful to a hamster's health!

Re: does this sound like a good diet for a hamster?
Sounds like a good plan, mine have a food mix, different seeds as treats and all sorts of sprays, flowers, leaves, herbs etc.So no, to me it doesn't sound too much, it sounds like you are trying to give your hamster a good variety of different things. Re fresh food, I tend to give mine every other day, it depends on the hamster. I just find too much fresh veggies can make their poops go too soft, especially with rich foods like kale.
Like Amityville says, they don't need any vitamins, so not sure what they are that you are giving him.

oh good to know, thank you !
and yeah about the "vitamins", i've stopped giving them to him because like amityville said i don't want to risk an overdose. they're by tropical carnival and considered foraging treats on the label. i don't think they're vitamins as much as they are treats with a good amount of vitamins and minerals in them but i totally see what people mean.
