Hamster eats housefly
Hello everyone,
My hamster are a house fly. Has anyone had this experience? I was letting him free roam and he found it near a corner. On a different note, does anyone trust Craiglist?

Re: Hamster eats housefly
I’ve only just got mine yesterday so haven’t let her out yet. I wouldn’t be too bothered if she ate a fly. She has dried meal worms in her food and I’m gonna buy some live ones in hope of winning her over.
Wait you don’t spray fly killer do you? Cause that wouldn’t be good.

Re: Hamster eats housefly
. Mm nice tasty snack! Such a vision. It is fine for hamsters to eat insects and what they would do in the wild. Hopefully the hamster would be discerning enough not to eat a wasp however. And as MMMD said - you will need to avoid the use of things like fly spray (which could be toxic to a hamster) or any aerosol spray like air freshener as well.
Afraid I don’t know about Craigslist as in the uk. Is it like eBay? If it’s just second hand sales I would think it’s ok providing there are secure payment methods as I’ve heard of people using it.

Re: Hamster eats housefly
I’ve heard of Craigslist, no I wouldn’t trust it. I’m pretty sure it uses the same format as Facebook marketplace with the rule of “buy as seen” so if you purchase something and it breaks in a week or doesn’t even start etc. Then you’re stuck with it and lost money. Heard of people going to court over work done or buying mechanical parts but if you’ve handed the money over that’s pretty much it.
Same as FB as well always meet up in a safe place and use cash never bank transfer. For small bits I’m sure it’s fine but anything big or work related such as building works or electronic just buy new or from a legit company.

Re: Hamster eats housefly
I'd also add that even if you personally don't use anything harmful around the house that insects could come into contact with, you have no control over what other people, companies, etc do - all of those being sources for something insects that end up in your house could've come into contact with. Wild insects ultimately are really not safe to be consumed for this reason, but in general the one off situations don't tend to be too bad. Definitely avoid it in the future though as it can be potentially harmful!

I don't think it's an issue eating bugs in the house No need to overthink it!
