Default Custom Mix

Hello all,

I've been working on my own homemade seed mix because I'm tired of the same old sad mixes available in the US. Tired of the ingredients being low quality and not organic. Tired of crappy dry pellets filled with junk. Tired of paying ridiculous shipping prices for mixes from the UK and further away. So I've been using this for my own hamsters for a while now and I'm thinking of setting up an Etsy store so other people can have access to an organic mix too. This is 100% organic, non GMO, and as locally sourced as I could find with over 30 ingredients.

I modeled this after some high quality German food that came highly recommended. Of course, I didn't have everything (because somethings are not available in the US) and I had to work on the measurements.

Here is the ingredient list:

Spelt
Barley
Rye
White Sorghum (Dari)
Red Wheat
Buckwheat
Kamut
Split Peas
Crickets
Mealworms
Wheat flakes
Oat seeds
Red Lentils
Millet
Brown Lentils
Barley flakes
Flaxseed (Linseed)
Milk Thistle seeds
Safflower Seeds
Pumpkin seeds
Hemp Seeds
Dandelion root
Sunflower Seeds
Cornflowers
Chamomile
Rose Petals
Marigold
Alfalfa Seeds
Fenugreek Seeds
Dehydrated seasonal vegetables (all hamster safe)

The macros come out to be
19% Protein
9% Fat
12% Fiber

I'm pretty happy with this mix and I guess my question is are there any major red flags that I missed before I offer my extra out to the public.

I get that some people are heavy into lab blocks (I prefer to feed my hamsters the natural way, no judgement if you disagree) I keep their diet as varied as possible and I have added treats that boost certain nutrients but I believe the mix I have covers all the bases.

If I did decide to sell some of it, I would probably just start with a Syrian mix. My hope is sometime, I can offer a dwarf mix, maybe a diabetes friendly mix, and maybe one for renal impaired hammies, since they have such unique needs.

The fat content on homemade mixes is different than the content for a commercial mix.

Commercial mixes have artificial additives that allow for the fat to be lower (because you need fat to absorb and breakdown certain vitamins).

Homemade mixes having higher fat content for appropriate absorption rates. They typically have between 8-10% fat content. The old standard of 4-7% only applies to commercial mixes.
