Default Harry Hamster vs Vitakraft

Just saw this Vitakraft mix at The Range shop.
What caught my attention was the no colourings.

My Syrians eat a mix of Harry Hamster and the Bunny Dreams from Zooplus. The big green and brown chunks always stay in their bowls. I'm not really sure which bits they are eating when i see them scrunching away.

My querie is: should i replace the Harry Hamster with the Vitakraft or is it simply the German version of the HH?

I'm not worried about the cost of hamster mixes and have tried both, the Rodipet mixes and RatRation's Mixerama mix but they were too herbal and small textured for my Syrians liking.

according to the analysis on the hammingway app:

Harry hamster 19% protein, 2.5% fat and 8% fibre
Vitakraft Menu with herbs has 14% protein, 4.8% fat and 7.6% fibre
They both have similar amount of ingredients and both have an average score.

Not sure that helps much

I think it could be a try it and see if your hamsters like it better, but maybe top it up with some extra protein items, which I know you do anyway.

Thank you Luna! I was hoping that you would reply.

Yes, your information does help. I'll give it a try and put a bit of all three mixes in their bowls.
Both Syrians are over a year now so a little less protein may not be a bad thing and they get a bit of egg etc.

Do you know what Hammingway classes as a good Syrian mix?

My concern with the vitakraft is the lack of information about the contents. It says 66% cereals (doesn't say what those are so could be mainly soya) and the next highest ingredient is "derivatives of vegetable origin" which is a generic term to mean by products of vegetable such as lecithin, textured vegetable proteins, soy oil.

I would stick to the mix of HH and Bunny The Bunny food has a very good ingredients list and clear as to what is in it. While the HH main protein is also soy it does include whole peanuts (part of the protein), whole sunflower and pumpkin seeds.

Hamsters usually leave some food behind - they also hoard some and snack on it when they feel like it. So they are probably getting what they need.

Pickle, of all the hamsters I've ever had, seems to leave virtually all his food in his bowl, whatever it is! He does pick out the favourite bits. But I'm sure, having watched night time videos of him pouching from his bowl and his size weight and health, he is getting what he needs.

I went off the rodipet mixes last year after having a bad batch. Very bad - it was full of white dust! Might have been a pandemic anomaly but I decided to stick to HH and bunny, with 2 or 3 science selective pellets added to the bowl - they like those - so at least you know they're getting everything they need. I stopped adding the science selective as pickle got older as they don't need so much protein when they get older - and started supplementing with linseeds instead.

Thank you both for your replies.

I think i'll stick to HH and Bunny but will open the bag of Vitakraft that is currently in the freezer to see what it looks like. I'll put some out when they are free roaming to see if it catches their interest.
