Exclamation Canadian food help

Hello
it has been a long time since I was on these pages.
Sadly a few years back Bijou passed and I wasn't able to get a new Ham, however, yesterday may incredibly loving bf got me a very cute Robo baby.

I took a grand adventure to Petsmart and I must say I was not impressed by lots of diets that contained molasses.

any brand/ makes that are preferred in Canada for our little dwarf friends? he is currently quarantining in the 10 gal (they mentioned they had an outbreak prior of wet tail) until the 40 is all set up ( I wanted to give it 2-3 clean rounds anyways but should be good to go before the weekend upcoming)

the shop was feeding him oxbow and gave us a whopping 9 biscuits saying that was 2 weeks of food, my bf made sure to tell them not if you keep their food fresh

but grateful to be back and so excited to educate myself on the newest goodies for my little "pickle"

Hey!
You actually can find the general recommended food [higgins sunburst and mazuri rat & mouse] in Global Pet Foods stores. If they don't have any in stock you can ask them to order it in for you.
I currently am feeding my own dwarf Winslow a mix of VitaKraft VitaSmart [which does have a small amount of molasses but could be swapped for VitaNature instead] and Versele Laga Hamster Nature Complete [which has added dyes and vaguely labeled 'herbs' that could contain garlic but given its at the very end of the ingredient list]. VitaCraft can be found at Petsmart and Versele Laga can be found at Pet Valu. The GA of the combined food [50/50 mix] is roughly protein 17%, fat 6%, and fibre 10%. The protein is on the lower side but I am not too concerned about it as Winslow is almost 2 years old. I don't think this mix would be great for your new friend at the moment but it could be an option to keep in the back of your mind if you can't find anything else.

Here is a guide on food and nutrition, there is a section on commercial foods attached.

I highly recommend looking into the Ontario Hamster Club group on facebook. It's run partially by the owner of Strong Brew Hamstery- a highly regarded Syrian breeder- and is full of lots of very helpful people.

Higgins Vita Garden would actually be much better than Higgins Sunburst as it doesn't have any dried fruit or added sugar. I wouldn't feed Mazuri at all if I'm honest as it isn't high quality and there are far healthier sources of protein. That on its own is fine with added Pure Bites and would work for any species, but you might have to get it special ordered or order it online!
