Default Soppy water bottle

Hi all
How do you train a hamster that has never used a hanging water bottle? He’s 7 months old now. I’m having a heck of a time with Oliver. He just won’t use it yet. I’ve tried it with him for less than a week. Am I being too impatient?

I'd give him a bowl as well and a bottle on a stand that doesn't move.

Why do you insist on your hamster using a hanging bottle?

Hi Ria.
I’m not insisting. I just don’t want a water bowl in his cage. I have always used sippy bottles for my hamsters and rats in the past. Oliver keeps turning the bowl over and it’s a ceramic bowl. I’ll keep both in. Thanks.

Oh i see. Is he in a tank or barred cage? For a barred cage you can get bowls that attach to the bars so can't get knocked over. The bird section of pet shops usually stock them. Aside from a sippy bottle you could also try the one with the ball spout. Maybe he prefers that type of bottle.
