Default ratrations food

Has anyone tried the ratrations dwarf hamster mix?

My dwarfs don't seem to like it and i don't know what to make of it. I found, what looks like a whole dried chilli in the food unless it is some sort of small pepper. Has anyone come across this before? It seems to be quite herby and flowery.

Clarissa threw a tantrum this morning and her normally near empty bowl was still almost full. She calmed down when i exchanged the food for the bunny dreams mix, i luckily still had a bag of.

I've emailed them and asked what the chilli lookalike is, awaiting a response.

can you leave a link to the actual one you bought?

Had a quick look and they list all the ingredients, and I can't see red pepper on there.

Was is it just that one piece or lots?

Not tried it yet, but was on my list to try next.

Is it this one
hamster mix - dwarf
I can’t really tell from the photo, I did try that one just to see what it was like & wasn’t impressed tbh.
That really does look like a chilli which is worrying!

I'm at work and don't know how to link.

I noticed the "chilli" in the mix kept in an airtight glass jar this morning when i fed them before going to work so didn't have time to check the whole supply. I chucked it out and refilled their bowls with bunny dwarf mix but will have a better look tomorrow.

I'm a bit worried they may have eaten something unsuitable from that mix but my OH is at home and hasn't reported anything back so they must be alright.

Yes, that's the one cypher. When i got it i thought "is that really hamster mix?". It was supplied by a bird place, Morley Aviaries or something which i thought was strange as well.

Nothing on that list that looks remotely like red pepper/chili!

That seems to be the name of their business premises Ria, if you look at the actual physical address where you can pick things up from, they also run a bird website from the look of things.

Morely avaries & Rat rations are the same company trading with two different names.
The mix is quite typical of some German mixes, they often have lots of herbage & flowers, that’s fine really but I find they often have too many really tiny seeds that the hams don’t eat. That’s what I don’t like about this one, Meri ate a bit but I didn’t even bother trying it with the boys!
The chilli thing shouldn’t be in there regardless, I’ve always found ratrations friendly & helpful when I’ve spoken to them so I’m sure they’ll get back to you on that.

Just to add if you do change mixes it’s best to do it gradually over at least a week or so rather than just a sudden change.

I've just ordered more bunny dreams from zooplus and will stay with that one. The dwarfs always leave all the herby bits which is the reason i've been looking for a small textured mix without all the herbs but the ratrations one is definitely the most unsuitable mix for my lot, aside from the chili.
I think what i'm looking for doesn't exist. A small textured version of the Harry Hamster adjusted for dwarfs.

Yes, i should have opened the new bunny dreams bag the same time as the ratrations and mixed the two together in their bowls like i did with the Syrians mixes.
No wonder Clarissa was fuming this morning.

I heard back from ratrations, a lady called Jade replied. She explained that they don't mix this hamster food themselves so don't know what goes in it. She'll contact the manufacturer and said that she was sorry. No refund was offered, not that i asked for one because the food didn't cost much but it would have been a nice goodwill gesture.

I am not impressed.

Ratrations do state their foods are complementary and not complete diets. I understand they don't have the added vitamins that a complete food would contain so they recommend that you add their vitamin drops to the diet.
