Default Sunflower/Pumpkin seeds for Dwarfs?

Hi

Just a quick question... Can dwarf hamsters eat sunflower and pumpkin seeds? I only ask because the Bunny Dwarf Hamster Dream food doesn't contain any. I know my Syrian used to enjoy taking the shells off and eating them. Maybe they are too big for dwarfs?

Many thanks. X

hello!
sunflower and pumpkin seeds are safe for dwarfs however they are very fattening so you should give it to your hamster in moderation.
you can also check online on pets at home or zooplus the sunflower treats they sell, they are really good as a supplement to their mix.

Yes they’re absolutely fine, all my Russians & Chineseys love them but as ykirobo said in moderation.

Great, thanks! And just to double check, the ones with the shells on are fine for these little guys?
Sorry, last thing, is Timothy Hay worth giving to them? Just read that it was good for their digestion.
Thanks a lot.

Definitely with the shells on, that’s good for their teeth & the extra work to get the treat inside is good enrichment!
Hams don’t need hay unlike some other animals, they don’t usually eat much, maybe the odd nibble, it is ok to use but first freeze it in case of mites & then pick out any sharpish bits that can damage pouches.
