Mealworms VS Crickets (as a treat)
I was wondering, for syrian hamsters specifically, which would make for a better treat for them? I didn't see another thread asking this in my quick search.
It's worth noting that these would be freeze dried, not live. I have one older male hamster (roughly 2.5-3 years, he was a rescue) and two younger female hamsters (roughly 1-1.5 years old).

Re: Mealworms VS Crickets (as a treat)
I would stick with mealworms, some Syrians don’t like them so be prepared for that, I have tried crickets a few times with my hams (not Syrians) & they really weren’t very interested whereas they really like mealworms.
Nutritionally there isn’t very much difference, both are high in fat but the amount of healthy EFA’s is better in mealworms so that’s another reason to stick with mealworms.
No harm in giving a bit of both for variety if you find your hams like them.
They are both high in protein so for older hams around 18 months & above you don’t want to be giving too much extra protein.

Thank you for your input! They used to be getting the yogurt drops before I learned how bad those are for a hamster, now they get those as a very rare treat. I just want them to be happy and healthy. ♥

Re: Mealworms VS Crickets (as a treat)
Recently I offered a freeze dried meal worm to my hamster. She didn't seem interested so I placed it in the bowl. At some point it was eaten. So she doesn't appear to be interested enough in them to take them from my hand like pieces of carrot or boiled egg, but she will eventually eat it.
