Default Dried fish??

Hiya! I am making my own mix from a couple of things from ratrations, these are the values so far that I calculated with the online calculator:
Protein 19.38%
Fat 6.54%
Fiber 9.1%
And the ingredients add up to 1000 and I have added 25g of dried fish. This helps the protein and fibre out a lot. This is the link for the fish -https://ratrations.co.uk/fish---mini
I can't find any information anywhere about feeding this as part of there diet. Is this okay for syrian hamsters? I hope so!

I wouldn't add fish as a regular addition to a hamsters diet. It is not a natural food source for them and you won't know if it is right for them. Just because it fits the protein level doesn't mean that it doesn't contain incorrect amounts of other vitamins and minerals for hamsters. There can be problems making your own food mixes to be honest and using a base mix that is tried and tested will provide a more balanced diet.

Hi, yes sorry I don't think I explained properly ahaha
I'm making my own using 3 actual mixes and adding in different things on the side - don't worry I have done so much research and calculations. Thank you for your reply! So even if it's just a tiny tiny amount per day I should just steer clear? xx

I would strongly recommend sticking to Rodipet foods(Teddy Junior for Syrian being preferred). They're already mixed, calculated, and properly balanced. You also get a whole food based synthetic additive free yet nutritionally sound diet this way without the stress of doing things yourself, while also supporting a smaller company!

As far as fish in general it wouldn't be something I would give on a daily basis even outside of a balanced diet. Freeze dried shrimp would be the more suitable choice with a better nutritional value than mealworms(great protein, much lower fat content, typically fairly sustainable as a bonus). I personally would not feed the same protein boost every single day though - rotatate different ones as this is more biologically appropriate and more similar to nature than just giving the same exact protein boost every single time. Freeze dried chicken and turkey are also good choices for this rotation if you want to keep it simple and convenient.

Which mixes are you using? There aren’t many good quality mixes around tbh so it would be better to use one good mix like the Rodipet or Getzoo mixes rather than try to achieve a good balance using lesser quality mixes combined.
I wouldn’t recommend fish as a part of their main diet either, a tiny bit now & then (mine have dried salmon about once or maybe twice a week) is ok for them but not really as an ingredient in the main mix.
