Food questions from new hamster owner
Hello
I am new here and I've recently bought a djungarian hamster.
Now she is eating Vitakraft Menu, but very selectively, I guess she does not like it a lot. And she ignored Vitakraft Emotion Beauty Selection at all before.
I wanted to order Versele-Laga Mini Hamster Nature, but cannot find it.
Also, no JR Famr(
Maybe I should order something from abroad, I do no know.
Maybe you can recommend something or point in what thread I can search for this info.
Thank you

Re: Food questions from new hamster owner
I'm not sure if they ship to where you are but Rodipet & Getzoo do the best foods.

Re: Food questions from new hamster owner
I agree Rodipet and Zooplus are best for specific dwarf hamster mixes. The Bunny dream mix from Zooplus and Rodipet have age specific dwarf mixes. Both are sugar free. That can be quite important with dwarf hamsters as they can be prone to diabetes.
If you aren’t in Europe and can’t get those then Harry Hamster is fine for dwarf hamsters as well - even though the pieces are more Syrian sized. It is also sugar free and contains all nutrients needed and correct protein levels. Hazel Hamster is the same formula even though the rda list is slightly different (different countries have different ways of measuring rda but the contents are identical).
You need to be careful with mixes that contain fruit due to the sugar content.

I agree. Mixerama is also a great place to get food!

Re: Food questions from new hamster owner
What about some additional snacks?
For example, dried plantain and clover
Also, can I give hamster nuts/meat/apple rarely?
Or better just give her basic food and no snacks?

Re: Food questions from new hamster owner
You can give additional foods as treats & to supplement the main diet, herbs like plantain & clover are fine, nuts or other seeds in small amounts but not too much too often as they are high in fat, plain cooked chicken is fine or you can feed freeze dried chicken, I wouldn’t give fruit but fresh veg that are safe to feed can be given daily.
