How to make sure veggies don't go bad?

I'm getting a new hamster this summer, and I was wondering how I make sure veggies have been eaten. I worry that if my future hammy takes the veggies to their nest I can't check whether they have been eaten or if they are going bad in the nest while I can't see them.
