Default Bird seed bells for dwarf hamsters?

Hello. I was wondering if bird seed bells are ok for dwarf hamsters as a treat and as something to keep them busy and give them a bit of fun?

The one I have seen and want to give to my little ones contains only millet which my dwarf hamsters love. Does anyone have any idea if there is anything negative I should be considering about giving them a seed bell?

Hamsters can have bird millet sprays and i've read somewhere that dwarves can eat the small bird seeds.

I would check what holds the millet together in a bell shape because in a lot of hamster sticks honey is used which i wouldn't give to a dwarf. I'd go in a pet shop (and i will as a matter of interest) to compare the binding ingredients of hamster sticks and bird bells. If they are similar and not sugar based they should be ok but that's only my reasoning and i don't have a definite answer.

Thanks RiaP. There are no ingredients listed on these bird seed bells but I'll be honest I was concerned about them being held together by something sugary too so I tasted it and it is completely tasteless and not sticky.

I googled ingredients in seed bells and it seems that gelatin and corn flour and light corn syrup are used to keep the seeds together however this is not sticky or sweet at all.

LOL!! Sorry Vierville but i had to laugh! It's the picture of you nibbling on a bird bell that's so amusing.

You could make your own from seeds held together with a flour/water paste, pressed into a biscuit/chocolate mould and then left to dry and set. May not be bells but Christmas is over.

They look like the same type of seeds hamsters eat. I'm inclined to say that they would be fine but personally, i'll stick to millet sprays for my dwarves and i definitely wouldn't give it to my diabetic Percy because of the corn syrup.

Haha well I had to try it on their behalf...if it's not good enough for me it's not good enough for my little hamster friends!

We give them millet sprays too which they absolutely love. I think I will put in in each one's cage and see how they go. Thanks for the input!

Little Rollo contemplating his seed bell. Five seconds later he was tucking in!

Well it looks like I will have to take little Norman's seed bell away. Just noticed that he has a patch of fur missing on his nose and I am guessing it was from him gnawing his seed bell.

Little Rollo has grown a lot. He is sooo cute the way he's studying the seed bell! Is it edible or a toy? Yay! I can eat it.

Can't quite see how he could lose fur on his nose from gnawing the seed bell. Does he chew the bars?
