Default Food quantity?

I feed my Syrian two tablespoon fulls of Harry Hamster with added extras around twice a week. Is that okay?

I've seen people do it daily so I'm just asking if my current method and measurements are acceptable?

I think it's fine since my hammy isn't over or underweight.

So 4 tablespoons a week? Might be ok, you could give more but it really depends on the individual. If the weight is ok then I wouldn't worry. Just make sure there is a hoard that is big enough or they can get stressed, it's better to give too much than too little.

I prefer to give daily as it gives them something to do, they do enjoy foraging. When you give them loads in one go they'll often take it all to the hoard and then be stuck around waiting several days for more food. That and I think it's better to give them fresh food so they don't have to eat food that's been out in the open for a few days. Depends on their habits though to be honest.

Wow! I'm feed a tablespoon a day! I must be massively overfeeding.... I add fresh veggies to the mix every other day or so too.... OPS!

Charliestar a tablespoon isn’t unreasonable it sounds about right. Don’t have a Syrian at the moment so can’t really remember how much they eat on average. Syrians can vary a lot in size though so just do what works

She seems to be eating it all and since Syrians don't tend to over eat I suppose this is fine still! I might take it back if she starts to build a larger hoard!

A level tablespoon a day (depending on what you call a tablespoon! I use the English metal tablespoon which is classed as 20mls. An american tablespoon - which measuring spoons usually are - is 15 ml and smaller so I'd give a heaped one of those).

So a tablespoon a day. On the second day if there's any left I bin it and put out the new tablespoon. Hamsters are funny in that however much food there is left, they tend not to eat it when it's a day old and only take it if it's freshly put out each day.
