Re: Hamster won't eat all of his food!!
My hams do this. I find that giving them fresh mix every three days only helps massively - they pick their favourite bits out on the first day, second day they eat the things they're less keen on and by the third day, all the least popular things have gone too. Obviously I give them enough at each serving to ensure they have enough to eat over the three days.
When I was giving fresh mix daily, I found I was throwing out a lot of the same stuff and once replenished, they'd just eat their favourite bits again. Now when it comes to time to feed on day three, there are just seed shells and maybe a couple of grass pellets left

Re: Hamster won't eat all of his food!!
Ah fussy eating. This is very common. The way to curb it is to not feed any more mix until all the old stuff has been taken. Don’t worry, hamsters will not let themselves starve and will get the hang of it after a while.
What mix are you feeding and what breed is your hamster? In my opinion the best mix for Syrians is Harry Hamster which does not contain dried fruit and anything with fruit in will not be suitable for russian dwarf hamsters from a pet shop as they will be hybrids which are diabetes prone.
EDIT: Just looked at your introductory post and can see that your hamster is a Syrian. Therefore, you may want to switch him onto Harry Hamster Muesli which is really the only suitable mix for Syrians in my opinion. Also, it is quite common for Syrians to leave the little seeds so although you should definitely encourage him to eat them, so long as he is eating the rest of his mix then you shouldn't worry too much.

Re: Hamster won't eat all of his food!!
I fill a little bowl with 1 tablespoon of hammy food mix every 3 days. Last night was the first time I have seen the bottom of the bowl, with only a few small bits left. She gets a bit of veg everynight too

Hartz is a pretty unhealthy brand of food, so if you could switch onto something better, that would be absolutely excellent! What country are you in? In nearly any country, Harry/Hazel hamster can be ordered off of Amazon so that's always a safe bet. If you're in the UK, I know it's on Amazon, but I'm not sure where else- that's a better question for the UK members. If you're in the US you can find it in petco, Amazon, chewy, and a few other pet stores

Re: Hamster won't eat all of his food!!
I definitely wouldn't recommend it.Hamsters have specific nutritional needs and very few US hamster foods actually meet those needs. It's an investment to get appropriate food, but in the end feeding only the highest quality food and treats(and certain supplements)can save you money on vet bills later on.
One option that may need to be done due to a lack of Harry/Hazel Hamster being sold in Petco(not sure when this changed)would be Higgins Sunburst hamster/gerbil food and Carefresh hamster food. These two on their own wouldn't be very good, but in a two thirds Carefresh to one third Higgins ratio they're just a tiny bit under the minimum nutritional requirements of hamsters. However,a simple addition of freeze dried chicken and a pinch of plain flax seed is all that is needed to make it suitable for Syrians
Make sure no treats or foods ever contain artificial flavors, artificial colors, unspecified biproducts(digest, derivatives, meat and bone meal of any sort, biproduct meals, animal fat or otherwise unspecified fat products, animal liver or otherwise unspecified liver products, etc),unspecified preservatives or artificial preservatives(especially BHA/BHT/ethoxyquin which are known to cause cancer, keep in mind if you ever buy UK products that these are often hidden behind the "E&C approved antioxidants/preservatives"loophole and therefore UK products with this terminology must not be used),artificial sweeteners or processed sugars(dextrose, sorbitol, sucrose, fructose, maltodex trin, etc),propylene glycol,or sulfur dioxide.Nothing should ever be made in China or irradiated either, and if it is a product you may share with dogs or cats it must not have corn, wheat,or wheat products/wheat relatives(safe for hamsters, terrible for dogs and cats, some examples of those products/relatives would be wheat germ and spelt).

Re: Hamster won't eat all of his food!!
I seen they have pellets and seed mix. Pellets are just straight pellets and don't look very healthy. And then the seed mix is just regular seeds. Which one should I get?
