Default Oh no!! Mushu ate salt!!

I know I am stupid. But, somehow a bit of salt dough (made from salt, flour and water) must have rolled from the kitchen into the hall where I let Mushu roam free. Anyway, I saw he was holding it too late. I tried to take it off him but he pouched it. I checked in his store when I was sure he would have unpouched it but I guess I was too late because I couldn’t find it. The recipe of the dough was 1 cup of flour to half a cup of salt to half a cup of water. The piece he took was perhaps the size of two peas. I know salt is bad for hamsters and I’m worried he will get sick!

Keep a close eye on him and make sure there is plenty of water available.

I'd probably give him a big chunk of high-water veg like cucumber.

Thank you both. We don’t have any vegetables in the house except fine beans right now which aren’t that high in water content. Ironic, since we usually have every vegetable under the sun in the fridge! I gave him a chunk of apple because that is what the hamsterlopaedia reccommends for extra water.

Will he be ok? Could he die?

AP,
Calm please, Pip had a similar thing a little while ago where she ate quite a bit of a baked salt and vinegar snack and I too was worried, she has also eaten curry by accident...
Keep plenty of water on hand, maybe get to the shops and by a cucumber and put chunks of that in the cage for him.
Have you checked on him at all I assume he is in his bed.

I agree with rads, it would be beneficial if you could get hold of some cucumber. I wouldn't worry too much. The no salt thing is because too much too often isn't good for your hamsters. However, a bit here and there really isn't going to hurt them. I had Duncan in a playpen in my kitchen, and I proceeded to spill a whole bag of corn nuts (which if you didn't know, are super crunchy corn kernels with tons of salt, pepper, and oil)! He pouched at least 7-8 of the kernels and I panicked because I couldn't get him to spit them out, but in the end he was just fine. Keep an eye on him, but don't stress yourself over it. He'll be just fine

Thanks Rads, Drago. I probably do need to relax! I bought some cucumber and posted it through the bars. He stuck out his nose and tucked in as soon as he smelt it. He’s looking fine, but I will keep an eye on him.

It’s alright! My mum found the little piece of salt dough in his cage! I could swear I had combed his store thoroughly, but apparently not thoroughly enough. So, Mushu has effectively tricked me into giving him apple and cucumber today. Silly boy...
