Baby food
Apparently baby food is ok for hammies, as long as it is low sugar and has no garlic or onions. Is this true? How often would be ok to feed it and how much?

Re: Baby food
No onion, garlic or tomato.
I recommend Heinz Broccoli Cauliflower Cheese, Carrot & Sweet Potato, Peas & Courgette. Cow & Gate's Chicken & Pumpkin, Chicken Sunday Lunch, Carrot & Potato.

Re: Baby food
Most adult hamsters shouldn't need to be fed baby food too often and it would only really be an occasional treat. Mine only tend to have it once every two weeks or so and I'll only tend to give them a fingernail sized portion. If you've got a Syrian you might want to increase the portion size though.
If you've got a very young hamster (less than 16 weeks) or one with health or dental problems then it would be okay to feed baby food a little more frequently and when I had an elderly hamster with a dental problem he'd have baby food twice a week and mashed Science Selective making up the bulk of his diet.
A popular one with mine has been the Cow and Gate Grandpa's Sunday Lunch one.

Re: Baby food
It is safe, usually the ones for age 4 months or under are less likely to have unwanted ingredients but you still need to check each one.
It's mainly used for ill or elderly hamsters but can make a nice treat too, mine probably have something once every three or four weeks, if they're lucky!

I might be mistaken on that name as I know I always check all the ingredients of everything I buy to give to the hamsters but I'll have to double check the jars I've got in the hamster room to be on the safe side just in case I've bought the wrong thing.

Re: Baby food
I like the Ella's Kitchen 4 month ones as an occasional treat. The vegetables ones are mostly safe, but the fruit ones can't be fed due to added lemon juice. Carrot always goes down well with Larry-Jasper and my guineas (I have an elderly boar who is quite frail so he has it as a treat to help with weight gain).
