Default Best veggies for Hybrids and Syrians?

Hi, I'd like to start feeding my Russian Hybrids and my Roommate's Syrian more vegetables on occasion? What veggies do they enjoy the most? And how often can Syrian's have vegetables (I know with Hybrids it shouldn't be too often because of the natural sugars but Syrian's aren't diabetes prone)?

Don't panic over natural sugars in most veggies, they're quite minimal and relatively harmless It's when you start getting into a lot of the heavily altered high sugar fruits(not all fruits are extremely high in sugar, some could potentially be fine in very small amounts on a very rare occasion only if fed fresh not dry as dry fruits have higher concentration of sugar),that you may have some issues.

Broccoli is an extremely good food to feed,it's very nutrient dense as far as foods go and while it is high protein(as are lots of plant foods)you do want to make sure your hamsters get animal protein regularly.Carrots in moderation can be fine too,but not fed too soon after fruits for hybrids as they are higher in sugar than most vegetables(although in moderation with a healthy hamster it shouldn't hurt, but if in doubt monitor your own hamster and if possible check sugar levels somehow). There are plenty safe lists out there, just make sure to double check with reputable lists if you're using one that isn't from a 100% accurate source!

My hybrid loves sweet red peppers, avocado, and tofu (not a vegetable, but, still...) I give her some carrots occasionally, but she won't go crazy for them (and they're high in sugar). This is a good video regarding a hybrid's diet:

Avocado is very questionable.Avoid it,there are massive amounts of completely safe plant products which are very healthy and offer incredible health benefits!

It's the avocado skin & stone that are toxic so any flesh that doesn't touch those parts should be safe but I prefer not to risk it personally.

alpacassei all my hybrids & Chinese tend to have different favourites when it comes to veg so you may need to experiment to find out which go down well, don't give up on the first try if they don't appear to like something as it can take a little while for them to get used to things.
Go easy on sweet veg but try as much variety as possible with the other veg, begin with small pieces every two to three days & work up to daily. You can start with similar amounts & work up the same way with syrians too.
This is my list if it helps.

Safe veg, those marked * are relatively high in sugar so only feed to diabetes prone species as an occasional treat if at all.
Asparagus
Basil
Broccoli
Brussels sprouts
Common or red clover
Cabbage, green or red
Carrot*
Cauliflower
Celery
Chard
Coriander
Courgette
Cress (not mustard & cress as commonly sold together)
Cucumber
Dandelion leaves & flowers
Endive/chicory
Green beans/runner beans
Kale
Pak choi/Bok choi
Parsley
Peas/mange tout/sugar snap/snow*
Peppers, any colour
Potato/sweet potato cooked only*
Radicchio
Spinach
Squash/pumpkin*
Swede
Sweet corn/baby corn*
Turnip

Tofu is a big favourite with all of mine too but is used to supplement protein levels, only if needed but a good alternative to mealworms or chicken.

I wouldn't rely on tofu as a replacement for animal protein but if used sparingly as an extra protein boost(not the only protein,of course)it could be a good treat. That said, the utilization of soy is much worse than animal protein(with eggs being the most bioavailable of all!).There are also issues with enzyme inhibition, and it can be a gas causing food,so it definitely needs to be limited.

Tofu is used by many ham owners Amity, as extra protein & as a food for baby or ill hams, it's perfectly fine, I wouldn't use it as a replacement for all the animal protein needs but is perfectly safe as an extra, no ham needs too much protein so as with all things, in moderation.

Of course! That's exactly the point though, that it must(as with any food)be fed in moderation(with special consideration in the case of some foods). It certainly isn't a bad thing to add in as an extra, with moderation as you've said.
