I'd have to agree with this.
I don't know if the taste of the wooden chews is less appealing to them or something but none of my hamsters have shown the slightest bit of interest in them.

Re: What dog treats are okay for hamsters?
None of mine have ever shown the remotest interest in wooden chew toys or even apple & hazel sticks, the only wood they've ever chewed has been wood I'd rather they didn't like their houses!
Dandelion roots are often popular though & another good option for chews.
Most hams are fine with the whimzees left in the cage all the time but you do occasionally get a ham that goes a bit nuts over them & eats too much so first time at least it's best to keep an eye on them.

Hercules never chewed anything wooden I gave him- he had zero interest! He did like the whimzees chews and the pedigree milk bones.

So it's good to know that Larry-Jasper is part of that small group of hamsters . I can't trust him so I have to take it out and let him have a bit every few days .

Sweep isn't interested in chewing wood either! Actually, he's not interested in chewing much at all ... He very occasionally chews on a dog biscuit or whimzees but that happens about as often as pugs fly. How he keeps his teeth ok I have no idea!

Re: What dog treats are okay for hamsters?
I can't actually get whimzees where I live, but dog's dental sticks are a very similar thing, just check the ingredients. My hamsters also really love the carrot dog biscuits pets at home do. They're pretty big though (bigger than either of my two) so they get half at a time.

Re: What dog treats are okay for hamsters?
Viovet sell Whimzees They're much different to things like Greenies and Pedigree Dentastix in quality actually, with Whimzees containing absolutely no animal products(meat would not be a problem, but biproducts, digest, etc isn't necessarily good)and no harmful preservatives as well as no artificial colors.
Certain Greenies products actually contain plasma,so that is something to be weary of.Just be aware of what is in any product!
I've personally seen some cheaper dog biscuits that weren't a big brand be better quality than Milk Bones, but that is a good example of why ingredients can be more important than a brand name

Re: What dog treats are okay for hamsters?
What should we look for in a healthy dog treat for hamsters? what kind of ingredients could be harmful for them, I know about onion and garlic but what else? I recently stoped by the dog section and there are so many options! i felt really lost

Re: What dog treats are okay for hamsters?
BHA/BHT/ethoxyquin,artificial dyes and flavors, any foods that are not listed as safe or unsafe along with those which are listed as unsafe,or otherwise questionable ingredients.Things like digest, derivatives, byproducts, unspecified meat or fat are also not safe and in the case of digest and derivatives are the same as byproducts and is an easy way for manufacturers to get out of directly stating that they essentially contain slaughterhouse waste and other nasty ingredients In the UK,you'll see things like unspecified antioxidants. This is not safe either, and should be instantly considered unsafe as it would be completely fine for these products to have BHA/BHT/ethoxyquin,which are known to cause cancer and are completely unsafe.I've also seen plasma and bloodmeal, which are both unsafe for any animal.

Re: What dog treats are okay for hamsters?
I highly recommend Whimzees chews! My hammies love the alligator shaped ones. I also give Milk-bone Dog Biscuits. Both I have tried on my hammies, and they love them! And when I mean love them, I mean LOVE them! They are always done with these treats in a matter of hours.
