Re: Hay?
Hay wouldn't be necessary or that beneficial and could cause injury,so probably just don't do it and spend the money used towards hay on something more enriching and species appropriate.

Re: Hay?
Some hams really enjoy hay, two things though, first you need to freeze for at least 48hrs, I usually do it for a week, to kill any mites that may be present, then you need to check it over for any sharp pieces that could damage pouches.

Re: Hay?
I've got a fairly big bag of hay for the guinea pigs but I've not yet tried it with the hamsters. I'll admit that the worry that they'll injure their cheek pouches has been a bit of a concern but I suppose as long as you're careful to remove any sharp pieces then it should be okay.

Ok, thanks for your advice! I think I'll give it a go.

Re: Hay?
Even if you remove all the sharp pieces, accidents can still happen due to the length of hay without considering anything else.

Re: Hay?
I think Timothy Hay is meant to be very soft!

Re: Hay?
It is soft enough to be safe for rabbits and guinea pigs and animals like that, but it is still very risky with such small animals like hamsters.

This is one of the best I've used.

Lol I use that one as well! Willow loves it, haven't tried it with the robos yet.
If you looked for a soft-stemmed hay then you'd probably be fine. Your decision though
