Linseeds?
I've bought some brown linseeds and I wanted to make sure that they are safe for Sherbet to eat?
If they are safe how many should be fed and how often?

Re: Linseeds?
Brown linseeds? I think the ones we have are called golden linseeds but they are a brown color ... Sweep loves them! He gets a tiny pinch every 3 or 4 days - he likes to hold each one in his paws and nibble at them!

Re: Linseeds?
Ok Thanks Pinkneon
When I went to get them I had the choice of brown linseed or golden linseed, I don't know if they are different or if it just the colour that's different?

Re: Linseeds?
From a nutrition point of view I don't think there's any difference between brown & golden, not that I can find anyway.
They are really good for them, coat, skin & joints especially, but high in fat so just a pinch at a time is plenty, mine have it in their mix, plus a few extra because they love them so much

Re: Linseeds?
Joey loves linseeds. I get them from Rat Rations and add a pinch to his food, they're always the first thing to go.
Rupert is less keen, they do get eaten but not with quite so much enthusiasm. I think he finds all small seeds a bit of a faf actually!
Both hams have lovely shiny coats and I think this might be due to the linseeds.

Re: Linseeds?
To be honest I've never seen brown linseeds ... I can only find linseeds in ONE supermarket and they only sell the golden ones!

Re: Linseeds?
I put linseed/flax seed in my hamster mix. I've used both golden and brown, depending on which I could get. My hams don't mind the colour

Thank Cypher, as I didn't know which ones to get just wanted to check that the were ok before giving them to Sherbet, as I only thought they came in one colour and when I had the choice of two I was confused to which ones to buy. When I tried looking them up to see if there was any differences I came across some side effect in humans if too many were eaten so I became a little worried if they were safe or not, especially as they said they were a laxative.

Thank Barley, hopefully Sherbet will get a nice shiny coat. Sherbet enjoys little seeds she always used to hunt to the bottom of her bowl to get to them, just want to add some more variety to her wet food.

Thank you Vectis Hamstery, I will try Sherbet with some later and see if she likes them.

Re: Linseeds?
From what I've heard linseeds, brown or golden, are great at improving the quality of coat and joints however they're quite fatty so 3-4 at a time should be plenty
