Sounds like a nice little mix for her, mine like clover too, I wouldn't want to take a chance with vermiculite though, you just never know with hams!

Psst.. you can grow your own Barley,Wheat and Oat grass mix in a completely digestible pot. Ice cream cones(the waffer kind not the sugar cones) are fantastic for starting seedlings to grow and can be planted in the ground in the garden as well with the cone pot being a fantastic food source for the plants as they grow and the earth breaks down the cone. You can get the seeds in the current grass mix at a grain seed and feed, or farmers market store. That way you could use dirt that is friendly to Hamsters and save a lot of money too.

I have a few cones right now to start my Snap Dragon seeds in to add to my decks flower box.

Well, Pizca doesn't eat the vermiculite, but I imagine that other hamsters could eat it... Nancy's idea sounds great, and there are other valid substrates for the grass

I asked this when I first brought the rodent grass (thread here - Rodent grass)

I actually did go ahead and put the tray in the cage and Rupert loved it! He didn't try to chew the plastic tray or substrate stuff, he was just interested in munching on the grass.

Grass could be used in the playpen or when they are out of their cage so they don't eat too much.

Thanks Barley! Very useful. As Charlie is rarely out during daylight I wouldn't be able to supervise what he does with it, so I'd better not put the whole thing in
