Same here! I've tried Charlie with other mixes but it's the only one he really likes. I think the pieces are good sizes.

its weird cause when I first got Flurry I was feeding him VitaSmart then I switched to Hazel Hamster cause I had heard so many good things about it, but now they lower the protein and people now say its not a good food but its what my hams eat picky lil buggers, I did try Vitasmart again and the food from drsfostersmith and they wouldn't touch either

They haven't actually lowered the protein, I think. The guy from Supreme petfoods says Hazel Hamster is marked 16% protein and Harry Hamster is marked 18% but they are identical products - it's just that in one country it's a guaranteed amount required and in another country it's a 'typical' amount required. They make it with 18% protein but 'guarantee' 16%. Legislation things in different countries as to how labelling is allowed.

It's supposed to have all the required nutrients a hamster needs, but some people supplement protein (some say 20% is good but I've always been told 18% is fine). You have lab blocks in the US which we don't have, but you can also supplement their protein and diet with fresh food - plain cooked chicken, cheese, nuts (maybe every few days) - sorry have to go! But Hazel Hamster is fine.

so hazel has the 18% even though it says 16% protein, 4% fat & 8% fiber

I'm sorry I don't like getting into these discussions of percentages on Hamster mixes and am starting to find it all quite stressful. I can only repeat the information given earlier.

Apologies Shelley - maybe someone else will be able to answer that one. I shouldn't worry about the contents though.

That would explain why so many hamster mixes in the US fall well below the 18 percent mark. I read the bag on every hamster food in the shop when I was visiting Sirius the other day and none of them came close to 18 on the Guaranteed Analysis.

Which is frustrating because I've got to do a food restock because what I have is under protein. And I am getting A Syrian here soon.

I think a lot of mixes fall a bit short on protein which is why people supplement a bit. I've just tended to go with supplementing occasional fresh food because it's nice! But it does help with protein as well. Charlie has mainly only ever had Harry Hamster, with the occasional piece of cheese, half a brazil nut or a piece of plain chicken now and then, and he is perfectly healthy So if Hazel and Harry are exactly the same food then Hazel must be fine too

I am going to close this thread if it continues in the vein of causing stress to the original poster who was simply passing on a message she hoped would reassure people.
Please remember that food is a choice you make in assessing the wellbeing of your hamster and if your hamster appears in good health and condition then no amount of analysing percentages will make a jot of difference. They will eat what they want from a mix and in my experience over 40 years they do on the whole eat a balanced diet if offered a decent mix.
The Harry / Hazel mix is well tried and tested and generations of hamsters including my own have done very well on this mix. Other brands are equally good and most are at least adequate in filling the nutritional needs of the average hamster.
It's an individual choice and you can only provide what fits in with both your budget and availability and do the best for your hamsters.
It's the old saying 'you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink' isn't it.
Please be mindful when making comments about food of people's circumstances.
