Nuts and Seeds?
I wondered which nuts and seeds are ok for hams?? I am doing the "healthy" part of the food shopping tomorrow and we tend to have nuts and seeds about once a month or so - otherwise they don't get eaten!
Although there are nuts and seeds in the food I wondered what they can have as a treat? I usually have dry roasted peanuts (YUM YUM!) but heard hams can't have them so I tend to stick to monkey nuts. In the past I think I gave a hammy walnuts, but I know they are quite fattening for them!

Re: Nuts and Seeds?
Oh, and also what dried fruit can I give Sweep? (He's a Syrian). I saw some dried mango in the shop earlier but not sure if he could have it or not so didn't get any!

Re: Nuts and Seeds?
I give Charlie half a nut about once a week and a monkey nut about once a week. He either gets half a brazil nut or half a pecan nut Brazil nuts are supposed to be good for the immune system and have loads of benefits and protein, but too much isn't good as they're a bit fatty I think. But I always feel good when I've given him half a brazil nut! Thinking it's helping his health. I also get little bags of pumpkin seeds from the bakery counter in the supermarket - they're good as treats - but I snap the pointy ends off as sometimes they're a bit sharp. Otherwise, I don't think Syrians are that bothered by seeds which can be a bit small - apart from sunflower seeds of course. I wouldn't give dried fruit unless it was preservative free. Most dried fruit has preservatives. As an extra special treat sometimes I buy those little snack packs of fresh coconut pieces. He adores coconut! I eat the rest myself as it has to be used within a couple of days of opening
