Default Best Food for a Robo

Hi everyone. I should have probably asked this question a while ago! I don't know if I am doing the right thing by feeding my 2 Robo boys Harry Hamster mix. I do mix other foods in their diets too like veg and the occasional bit of egg and some meal worms. I have heard it is a good mix but is it good for Robo's? My Syrian loved it and the boys clear their bowls out but I was wondering if there was a better mix out there. I currently have 2 full bags but if I need to get rid of them or give them to another ham that will benefit from the food more then I will.

I always worry if I am doing the right thing! I think I worry too much... I just want what is best for them

Thanks!

Hi buttons. Harry Hamster is fine, although I think the extruded biscuits may be a little large for a wee robo, so give those a tap in a pestle & mortar or just use a rolling pin or a hammer! Anything that is too big, just snap it or break it up.

I would say buy a bag of Burgess Dwarf food as this contains canary and millet seeds which dwarf hamsters love. You could add a teaspoonful to the HH food to add variety. Most pet shops sell this food so it should be easy to buy. Zooplus JR Farm Dwarf food is also very good, but can be pricey unless you are buying in bulk due to their £15 spend limit. So the Burgess Dwarf food would be the next best. x

Thank you I have a friend that has the brother of my boys so we can buy a few bags and have a look what else they have online to make it up to the limit

My Robo didn't like Harry Hamster, he'd leave most of it as the bits were so big.

He has Burgess now (the regular one, not the dwarf version) and that's much better for him. I also add some oats, millet, canary seed and a few other little bits for him.

He loves his veggies too, get's a tiny piece every day.

Harry Hamster is supposed to be one of the better quality mixes out there however I've found that my Chineseys have left the bigger bits, particularly the biscuit things which Supreme have told me were wheat. You could break them up but there's a fair amount of them so you'll need a fairly big bowl and rolling pin or you could break them up in a pestle and mortar (as RH suggests) before you give it to your hamsters.

It's a shame that there's not a dwarf version of Harry Hamster.

I was feeding my robo just Burgess Dwarf hamster harvest and he seems to like it for the millet but last time when I was getting a bit low (by which I mean I spilt 3/4 of a new bag when I ripped the bag. Oops) I mixed in some Harry hamster for some variety and I have to say I like that mix so will probably stick with that. Sometimes with the Burgess I feel it's a bit too much small seed stuff (in relations anything else) and also, Hector has to dig through the bigger bits to get the stuff he wants (usually the smaller stuff from the Burgess) so he has to work a bit for for his food if I mix it.
